1996 Summer Olympics

History:Flame and Torch
The ancient Greeks believed that fire was given to human kind by Prometheus and considered to have a sacred  quality.Mirror were used to focus the sun rays to ignite flames that would perpetually in front the Greek temples.The Olympic Flame began in 1936 in Berlin games.3,330 runner brought the torch with flames.
Today,the Olympic Flames is lit in front of the ruins of the 
Temple of Hera in Olympia Greece.

The meaning of the design: It resembles a Greek column. It 22 aluminum "reeds" intended to represent the number of times that the Games had been held.

Meat Balls with Carrot

L.I.-W.A.L.T.-write a in recipe using carrots.
Success Criteria:I know I can do this when I make a recipe of a meat ball with carrot


Ingredients:
½ ground pork
1½ of grated carrot
1 small onion
6 cloves garlic(use less if you don't like garlic)  
1 tbsp of soy sauce
1 tsp of salt
½ tsp of ground black pepper
3-4 cps of oil for frying

Tools/Materials you'll need:
Knife/Food chopper
Cutting board
Large mixing
Plate or baking  sheet
Frying pan
Spider strainer or slotted spoon
Paper towels

Procedure:
1.Peel onion and garlic. Slice onion into cubes.Mince them as fine as you can.

2.Peel 2 to 3 pieces  of  regular carrots.Grate them finely.

3.Mix everything together except the cooking oil in a large mixing bowl. It’s best to use your clean hands to do the job to ensure all ingredients are well-combined.

4. Scoop portion of meat mixture and form into a ball. Set aside.

5. Repeat step 4 until mixture is used up.

6. Heat up oil on frying pan over medium high heat. Once oil is hot, carefully drop meatballs one by one. (Test by sprinkling water into the oil. It should be ready when it sizzles). Do not overcrowd the pan.

7. Deep fry until golden brown, about 10 minutes.

8. Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

9.Serve warm meat balls.Refrigerate the rest by keeping them in an airtight container or Ziploc bag and freeze for future use.

How do Cats Show Their Feelings

 L.I.-We are learning to write an explanation.
success Criteria:I know I can do this when I can write a question in the heading, an introduction to tell about the topic, and series point telling how and why.
                  How do Cat Show Their Feelings?

Cats have many different ways of showing their feelings.

When cats are playful they show their feelings by leaping up on your knee to sleep.They jump to high places like cabinets to see every thing.They chase laser beam as I  move it along.They follow ants and stomp on them.

When cats are angry they show their feelings by making their fur stand up  to make them look like big so the other cats will be scared.They twitch their tail to  signal other cats not to go near them.They scratch other cats to protect them selves.

Cats are the most playful animal in the whole world!

Duffy Theatre

                                  Duffy Theatre

Success Criteria:I know I can do this when I write a recount about Duffy theatre show using correct punctuations.

Wow! What an amazing show!

Three Duffy people told us a story about a kid called Duffy who
travelled back through time to help an old lady called Ruby.
Ruby can't read because she did not go to school. Her dad was in the war,so Duffy travelled back through time to save Ruby's dad first. If her dad came back alive, he would send Ruby to school.

It was very dangerous trying to save Ruby's dad because he got caught in the middle of an explosion.After that Duffy tried to go back to his real time but the time machine glitch instead he go to the future.There he saw him self.The future Duffy help the old Duffy.When the time machine was fix the old Duffy go back to his real time and Ruby learn how to read.

I enjoy the part where Duffy meet a ninja and when Duffy save Ruby's dad.Lastly We ask question about their jobs and all teacher and student go back to class and say thank you.

Jack The Rat

 L.I.-W.A.L.T write a narrative story about tiny creatures.
Success Criteria :I know I can do this when I wrote a story about rats.

Once upon a time there was a rat named Smelly Jack.
One day Smelly Jack smelt a slice of cheese and followed the smell to the kitchen.He saw a big slice of cheese.

He can't climb the table but he saw a snail under it.
So he ride on it when the snail is going up the table but he fell. He saw a bird named Jake who was in the window "Jake, can I have ride?"shouted Smelly Jack. But the bird can't hear him. 

Smelly Jack saw four rats running, he yelled,"Guys help!" They run to him and asked"What's the problem?"
"Help me shout so Jake can hear, then we can go up in the table,"said Smelly Jack.They shouted loudly and Jake heard them and went down to gave them a ride.

When all of them was up on the table.
they saw not just a big cheese, but also rice, and they ate hungrily and happily.

Jump the Plank

L.I.-W.A.L.T.-measure how far we could jump the plank using centimetres.
Success Criteria:I can do this when I measured the distance of how far I could jump the plank.

Our group jumped the plank and measured how far each one of us had jumped.We used the chair as our plank and started the measurement from the foot of the chair to the back of our heel where we landed.

Result:

 First: Kyle-115 cm.

Second: Roneeza-110 cm.

Third: Fulila-82 cm.

Fourth: Alizzandro-70 cm.

 Fifth: Anamaria-37 cm.

Success Criteria:I know I can do this when I solve problem by equal sharing using division and fraction

 1.30 lollies shared between 5 bags?
Answer:Division:30÷5=6
Repeated addition: 5+5=10 5+5=10 5+5=10 so 10+10+10=30
Fraction: 1/5 of 30=6  
Skip Counting:5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30
Multiplication: 5×6=30

2.45 lollies shared between 5 bags?
Answers:Division:45÷5=9
Repeated Addition:5+5=10 5+5=10 5+5=10 5+5=10 so 10+10=20 10+10=20+20=40+5=45
Fraction:1/5 of 45 
Skip Counting:5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45

Balloon Magic

Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I write instruction in order of how to make a magic balloon using action words at the beginning of the sentence.

Materials:
T-shirt
balloons
head with hair 
Steps:

1.First blow up the balloon until its big.

2.Second rub the balloon in your shirt or hair

3. Take the balloon which has been rubbed against the material or hair and given a charge of static electricity.

4.Put it on your head and you will notice that your hair goes up and stick to the balloon.

5.Was the goal achieved?

Magnetic Paper

Success Criteria:I can do this when I write instructions in order on how to make a magnetic paper using verbs.


Steps:

1.Grab a paper.

2.Cut another paper into small pieces.

3.Find a comb and rub it in your hair for 10 minutes

4.Put the comb on top of the small pieces of paper.

5.If the small pieces of paper stick into the comb,your experiment is successful.

Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I showed and acted with tika,pono,and aroha in different places.


How to show and act with tika,pono,and aroha.

1. In the playground :

I showed and acted with tika,pono,and aroha by helping my classmates when they get hurt. Examples: My classmates get hit with the ball when we are playing  so I will bring him or her to the sick bay.Let them join in the games when they are lonely .


2. In the classroom:

 I showed and acted with tika, pono,and aroha by helping my classmates when they are stuck using the chrome book.Example: My friend does not know what to do next when we are doing some padlet so I will help her or him. Showing respect to the teacher and my classmates by not talking when the teacher or classmates is talking. 

3. At home:

 I showed and acted with tika, pono, and aroha by helping my mother clean the dishes and sharing my toys  with my brother and sister and obey the home rules.

                        How to plant a seed

Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I can write instruction in order how to plant a seed.

Materials: yoghurt pots, watering can, seed, soil, water

Steps:
1. Punch a hole in the bottom of the yoghurt container.

2. Write your name on a sticky paper then stick the sticky paper on the yoghurt pot.

3. Fill the yoghurt pot with soil.

4. Dig a little hole in the middle of the soil using your pinky finger.

5. Put the seed in the hole facing up ,then cover the seed with soil.

6. Pour some water in the yoghurt pot then wait 9-10 days for the seed to grow.

Success Criteria:I know I can do this when I can measure  the length of a carrot using centimetres.

Mrs Twomey assigned me a partner to work with to measure the length of a carrot from the root to the tip of the leaves.This is what we found out.

1.Using 5 cm.The carrot is twelve 5 cm.Long.

2.Using 10 cm.The carrot is six 10 cm.Long.

3.Using 8 cm.The carrot is seven 8 cm.Long.

4.Using 6 cm.The carrot is eight 6 cm.Long.

Success Criteria:I can do this when I write instructions in order on how to play hopscotch.


Steps:

1. Line up in front of the hopscotch.

2. Throw a stick or a stone into any number.


3. Hop on to the number squares until you get closer to the square that your stone had landed.  


4. Pick up your stone.


5. Jump over the the number where the stone was.


6. Keep hopping up to the end of hopscotch


7. Turn around.


8. Hop back to the start.



9. Give the next person a chance to play.

Steps:
1. Warm up-running, jogging, side steps.

2. Grab a sticky belt and tie around your waist.

3. Pin the colour tag on the belt.

4. Split into two teams.

5. Pick up a Rugby ball and start the game.

6. Return the ball, belt,and tags when the game is over.
7.Say thank you to the coach.

I want to thank you all for the lovely and healthy lunch you gave us.It was the yummiest lunch I have eaten.I really like the chocolate dip cookie because it is sweet and oaty.

I love the sandwich with crunchy celery, cucumber,and yummy chicken.The fruit salad has sweet and healthy melon, pineapple kiwi fruit,yoghurt, plum jam, and more.Thank you for the effort you did to make it pretty to eat.

Fire Fighter are Heroes

agree that fire fighters are heroes because they teach us to be safe around fire. They teach us what to do when the house is on fire. They teach us  to be careful when using matches and lighters.

Fire fighters save people from burning houses and from burning cars.They  rescue people falling from high places.They help people get out from the cars during car accidents.They put out bush fires.
